Can I live with friends, or can you match me with roommates?

You can select your roommate(s), or you can apply on your own and we can match you with other students. Applicants answer a short list of lifestyle questions to help in the matching process.

What are per-person contracts?

Instead of requiring all roommates to sign a joint lease, each person at 33 East has their own individual contract, with one person per bedroom. This means you are only responsible for paying for yourself — not your roommates. Even if a roommate moves out or other bedrooms in your apartment are empty, you only pay the rate for your bedroom.

What is included in the rate?

Each resident at 33 East pays a flat rate that includes:

  • Full set of furniture
  • High-speed Internet
  • Unlimited electricity
  • Water & sewer
  • Trash removal
  • Washer and dryer in each apartment
  • 24-hour on-site management
  • Community features — pools, fitness center, tanning, etc.

Are private bathrooms available?

Yes. All bedrooms at 33 East feature a private “in-suite” bathroom.

When do the contracts start and end?

The standard term is August 18, 2017 to August 1, 2018, with payments made in 12 equal installments. Please inquire with our staff for alternate term requests.

Can I pay by credit card?

Yes. Residents can pay online 24 hours per day, by credit card or ACH electronic checking. 33 East also offers automatic payment by either credit card or checking account — just fill out one page, one time and payments will be made automatically. There is a convenience fee for one-time online payments, but automatic recurring payments are always free.

Will my financial aid cover charges at 33 East?

Your living costs at 33 East can be covered by financial aid, just like on-campus housing. Any available financial aid funds, after university charges are satisfied, are released to the student for non-institutional expenses, such as off-campus housing. These funds can be used to pay charges at 33 East. Normal payment deadlines will continue to apply.

Is 33 East open to non-students?

Most of the residents at 33 East are students at East Carolina University or Pitt Community College, and the per-person contracts are also designed with students in mind. Nonetheless, 33 East is an Equal Opportunity housing provider and welcomes applications from non-students. Family members are welcome as well, subject to occupancy limits. Because of the need to match student apartment-mates, non-students must apply together with enough apartment-mates to fill an apartment.

What kind of safety and security are provided?

33 East offers electronic controlled access to each apartment, plus locking bedroom doors. Community courtesy patrols are provided at select times, plus security cameras are located in certain areas. Management staff are also on-site 24×7 and can be reached by a 24-hour phone number.

What are the policies on pets, smoking and guests?

33 East is pet-friendly in specified buildings only; restrictions apply. Smoking is permitted when all apartment-mates consent; the residents will share a minimum $250 deep cleaning fee if there is any smoking in an apartment. Guests are welcome at all times, subject to the consent of apartment-mates and security considerations. Overnight guests are welcome, with limits on the number of days and guests.
